Expansion News at Crescent Manufacturing

Passivation

At the end of August 2008, Crescent made the decision based on environmental issues, to no longer keep the chemicals in house that allowed us to maintain compliance with the QQ-P-35 or the ASTM A380 passivation specifications.   Beginning in September it became necessary for us to have this process done by an outside source. Crescent has partnered with a local finishing company that can provide us overnight service on these requirements. Any passivation to ASTM A967 will continue to be done in house.   If you require NADCAP processing, please make sure to specify this on all inquiries and orders as this is not the standard and will require special handling by a separate outside processing source.   All passivation has certification availability.   All commercial parts are provided certs upon request, all NADCAP and military items will be provided certs automatically as part of the required certification package.

As this was a new venture for both companies initial costs were high and Crescent was unable to offer much relief to our customers for this added outside process.  Now that we are several months into our new partnership, we have been able to work out a much improved price savings that we have begun to pass on to our customers. It is always important to Crescent to keep our pricing as competitive as possible so that we may offer the best parts at the best value, to give you, our customers, "THE CRESCENT EDGE ."

Material Costs

2008 was certainly a year that will be remembered for some time.   Not only did we have $5.00 per gallon fuel prices, the stock market collapsing, and all the political hubbub of an election year, but closer to home our industry faced some of the greatest material cost increases that Crescent has experienced in the past 30 plus years.

Stainless steel reached its all time high with increases that peaked at more than double the cost from just 2 years ago.   Alloy steels had almost doubled and Mild steel, although lagging way behind, was up 70 to 80%.   Between fuel surcharges and the scrap market, there seemed no end to the increases.

During the last quarter of the year Crescent was able to negotiate some larger purchases of material to begin to reduce these costs.  Some have been dropping on their own but  further reductions have been obtained by working with our suppliers.  These new purchases should be showing up by late second quarter 2009 as our inventory, and our vendors higher priced inventories dwindle.
